I see urban wildlife photography as a form of street photography, candids documenting creatures living their lives, much as we live ours, in spaces that are just as much theirs as ours. Through my work, I hope to help draw connections between our lives and theirs. Think about your morning and before-bedtime routines as you view an egret grooming its beautiful plumage at the end of the day; remember all those trips to Home Depot as you witness a heron returning to his mate and young’uns with nesting materials; wish for wings as you’re stuck in traffic, as you watch those crows stream across the city as they make their evening commute from the neighborhoods where they’ve been feeding to their collective evening roost. My aim is not only documentary, though. I strive to not only capture the behaviors and biology but to spark the awe, wonder, and curiosity that sightings of our animal neighbors often inspire.
